About Dr. Kawesch

Dr. Gary Kawesch is a refractive surgeon specializing in advanced techniques of
laser vision correction. After attending Yale University and graduating with the
highest honors at the top of his class, he moved out west to attend medical
school at UCLA. He then completed his Internship at USC's Huntington
Memorial Hospital and his residency at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute,
perennially one of the top five eye centers in the country. In 1992, Dr. Kawesch
began specializing in refractive surgery, and correctly predicted these
procedures would become commonplace. Over the years, he has developed
instruments and techniques that are now used throughout the world for LASIK
surgery. He holds two patents in the field, and continues to innovate.

Dr. Kawesch was the first surgeon in Northern California to perform wavefrontguided
LASIK, the most advanced form of laser vision correction. He was the
second surgeon to perform all-laser LASIK (IntraLASIK), and over the years
has often been an Investigator for FDA Clinical Studies on new technology and
new lasers. He has been the ophthalmologist for the Oakland Raiders since
1998, and is currently the Official LASIK Surgeon for the Oakland A's, the Los
Angeles Dodgers, Kings, and Galaxy, and is a proud sponsor of the San Diego
Padres. Dr. Kawesch's patients include leaders from the sports, entertainment,
music and business worlds. Among many others, he has helped Carlos Santana,
The Insider's Pat O'Brien, Judge Joe Brown, actress Rachael Leigh Cook, The
Doors lead guitarist Robbie Kreiger, Linux Inventor Linus Torvalds, 2007 first

Dr. Kawesch has performed laser vision correction using a wide array of laser
technologies including Alcon's LADARVision, VISX, Bausch & Lomb, Nidek,
LaserSight and Wavelight Allegretto excimer laser systems, as well as the
IntraLase femtosecond laser for “blade-free” LASIK. Dr. Kawesch personally
had LASIK surgery in 1996, and still sees better than 20/20.
